Windows Live Sync is a relatively simple, yet effective technology that keeps selected files and folders synchronized on multiple computers. There are two primary applications for this that many of our clients rely on heavily: - Individuals with more than one computer (say, a Desktop and a Laptop) can effortlessly keep their "My Documents" folder, their Internet Explorer or other browser Favorites, desktop icons, and more fully synchronized, such that a change made to one of the computers is immediately reflected on all other computers in their synchronization group. So, a Web site added to your Favorites group on your laptop while on the road will show up automatically in your Favorites on your desktop the next time you use it!
- Work groups and other teams can easily select a certain folder on their computers that will remain in sync. So, they could create a folder called "c:\projects" and when any group member adds or alters a file in that directory, that change will immediately be reflected on all other member computers. This allows groups that are not co-located to coordinate on files easily and securely without having to use the typical "email out the latest version" technique!
